The afternoon of March 22nd was spring-like. It was warm, yet somewhat overcast, and while dark clouds threatened, the rain managed to hold off. More importantly, the Connection Communicators club held its Open House that afternoon in one of Nokia’s buildings located in Las Colinas.
The word of the day for our meeting was “vernal” and it couldn’t have been more appropriate for our Open House — not only in terms of the weather, but also with regard to the event itself. There was definitely a freshness and newness about the atmosphere, due in no small part to the fact that close to half of the people in attendance were guests. In addition, the members present were revitalized and energized by the excitement of the visiting guests. Overall, twenty-six people attended the Open House and we were thrilled with the turnout!
Our meeting was opened on time by the Toastmaster for our meeting, Swapan Sarkar. With the theme being “Open House,” the speech for that afternoon was right on target. John Bergs, guest and prospective member, gave an informative speech entitled “Improve with Toastmasters.” Table Topicsmaster Jose Cabuslay diligently explained the benefits and practical use of participating in Table Topics. Members took care to describe each of the meeting roles performed as well as the broad-spectrum benefits of joining Toastmasters. Complimentary refreshments were served and a great time was had by all.
The Connection Communicators club has recently become an “open” club, and has expanded its current membership to include corporations sharing a campus with Nokia as well as those corporations in close proximity. We would love to continue this growth and have new members join us — after all, the more the merrier! If you’d like to visit one of our meetings, they are held every Thursday from 12:00-1:00 pm in the Nokia Siemens building in Las Colinas (6000 Connection Drive, Irving).
If you have any questions, please contact the club President, Larry Harmon.
We hope to see you soon!
