Being Prepared Pays Off

You never know when just reading a project’s objective will help you.  I recently interviewed for an internal training position. The question was how I would handle a large training audience where there were distractions. Since I had no prior experience to pull from, Project 4 in my advanced manual, Facilitating Discussion,  popped into my head. I haven’t even given the presentation; I had only read the objectives. My answer; pose questions to them, find solutions to remove their distractions and engage them in the conversations at hand. Thank you Toastmasters: it pays to read the objectives of future speeches....

Toastmasters Made Me Quit My Job: Hyperbole and More

Recently, I quit my job, gave up all my worldly possessions (except for my Internet! You can pry that from my cold, dead hands, thank you very much!), and moved to a little adobe house in New Mexico. And, I blame it all on Toastmasters! Okay, maybe a little blame goes to my former boss and coworkers, but more on that later. Several years ago, I had been going about my life quietly and joined Toastmasters to improve my public speaking skills. The first few years I attended meetings and practiced my skills by giving speeches. Then one day one...

Kim Speaks Out.

I am a new member of the LM Evening Toastmasters Club in Area 15. It has been such a positive impact for me that I can’t wait for the next week to roll around. I can see it already helping me be more conscious while I am speaking. I just completed speech # 3. So far all have qualified and two have gotten the best speech of the night. I wish that I had joined many years ago but I just couldn’t work the Lockhead Martin daytime clubs into my schedule. I am very glad that Area 15 started the...
