“INVITE FAMILY”.  So states our D25 Public Relations Manager Steven Timmons.  He has experience in this:  his parents were in Toastmasters in Oklahoma, but never invited him to a meeting.  Thankfully for D25, in June 2010 Steven and his wife Rose walked into an Afterburners meeting and haven’t looked back.  Both Steven and Rose have served in multiple District, Area, and Club roles since then.

Steven started his life journey in Dallas, TX in 1961.  “I have always felt a special kinship to Six Flags Over Texas. They opened in August 1961 and I was born in September.  They have always celebrated my age at the park.”  He has two younger brothers. His Dad was a printer in the early 60’s, and one of his clients was Jack Ruby. “Jack Ruby once demonstrated a hula skirt in my dad’s shop after a trip to Hawaii.” Steven told us.  From Dallas, the family moved to Arlington for Steven’s elementary school years, then Mansfield for his middle and high school years.  He started his college career as a Texas Wesleyan Ram, then became a Maverick of The University of Texas at Arlington as he earned his BBA in Accounting.  While he bounced around a bit after that as an accountant and auditor for Price Waterhouse, Andersen Consulting and Accenture, and Radio Shack, he just joined Spectrum as a Direct Sales Representative.  He credits Toastmasters for his move into Sales and Marketing.

“In preparing for a Toastmasters speech, I figured out that I am one of the oldest people that has not seen a state added to the union.” Steven writes. (1959 was the last year states were added: Alaska and Hawaii).  He continues that he is “….one of the youngest people that was a contemporary of John F. Kennedy.  I was only 2 when he was killed.”

Both Timmons are DTMs, with Steven having two and working on his third.  Steven’s desire is to serve the members of D25.  “I see several opportunities to raise the bar for Public Relations Manager.”

Steven’s service has risen D25 to new levels.  We are glad he is part of this District’s Journey to new levels!
