Tom was always encouraging me and let me know that I was better than I thought I was!
So in his honor, let me say this:

Tom Merritt – he was one of a kind
And he was a good friend of mine
He always encouraged me over the years
And he helped me get my DTM through all of my fears
An Aggie through and through, he would say with pride
That was something he would never ever try to hide
If you knew him at all, oh the stories he could tell, I was sold
He knew something about everything was what I was told
And the people he knew, so very many of great fame
And he liked to share stories and called them by name
He would grin and just shake his head at me many a day
As we would be going to contests or training on any given Saturday
He was like an anchor in the water that you could always depend on
He was always right there in his favorite chair at each meeting
I can still hear him laughing at me about something I said
He saw something more in me than I ever did
Memories of his stories, yes they will last forever is it true
And practice practice practice was his encouragement for you
He will be someone I will always remember and be glad I knew
Memories of him and his stories, well, I am sure we all have a few
