Takeaway from Conference: What People Thought About Their Experiences

This was truly one of the best conferences the District has ever had. The keynote speakers were outstanding, and the program top notch! The speaking competition was incredible, and I can truly say I am glad I was not tasked to be a judge. We learn *so* much from listening to speeches of this caliber. I am confident that all attendees came away with a new resolve to continue to improve their speaking and communication skills – and more importantly, to guide and support others in improving their skills. As the breakfast keynote emphasized, we will strive to become “immortals”...

Fashion Statements at Sci-Fi Costume Contest Are Out of This World

Wow!  Did everybody “Boldly Go!” to the Spring Conference Friday Night Costume Contest! Before we knew it, Admiral Kirk (a lifelong dream for Bret) was dressed.  I put all the Queen Bling on I could find (hey, I have my dreams too!) and it is time for the contest! We saw fellow Toastmasters ready for battle, prepared to serve on the Enterprise, and some were, well, just ready! Imaginations and creativity was at its best! The costumes were just great! The music was so fun and the dancing began! The aliens were rocking and everyone joined in. There were moves...

Forty-Nine First Timers Have a Fantastic Time

The D25 Spring Conference was a perfect setting to meet and greet 49 First Timers!  Bonne Stroman presented a warm Galactic welcome at the Friday First Timers Reception.  The Hospitality Suite, known as “10 Forward,” was beautifully decorated and very accommodating to our reception attendees — complete with the D25 version of Romulan Ale Punch! Bonne provided a brief synopsis of what to expect during the conference and encouraged our Padawan to maximize the value of their attendance by learning as much as possible from the amazing speakers while networking with fellow Toastmasters. One lucky First Timer won a beautiful...

Honoring the Ones Who Did More Than Just Try

Do… Or Do Not — There is No Try. These were Yoda’s famous words in The Empire Strikes Back. At the May 4 Awards Luncheon, Cindy Jones was our Yoda and the toastmaster. Our members and clubs received many education awards, ribbons and Toastmasters store gift certificates. Dean Lampman suggested  a good way to spend the money is to purchase a club banner with the new logo. Be prepared for our next conference with your new banner! With over 500 outstanding officer nominations, the selected outstanding officers for the period of July through December 2012 are: President — Elizabeth White,...

Help Wanted for Video Project

District 25 seeks your assistance with a project that we hope will enhance our upcoming and future conferences. Let’s Beat the Clock!

Tick, tick, tick. Only 75 days are left in this Toastmasters year. Excitement is building as our members, clubs, areas and divisions work to beat the clock and achieve goals. Here are some suggestions to help: Track progress. It’s wise to measure and monitor progress toward educational awards (and club DCP goals). You should already be doing this, but if not, start now. You can use a spreadsheet or even the surface of a napkin. Just do it. What gets measured is more readily achieved or advanced.  Conduct Speech-a-Thons. Districts cannot organize speech-a-thons, but clubs can conduct these special events...

Website Madness: What to do and how to get there

How do I add a picture to our home page? Can I link to articles on the district website? How do I capture a potential visitor’s attention? Can we upload meeting minutes to our website? No one knows the admin password, what do I do? The April 22nd installment of Membership Mondays will answer all these questions and more!  In this step-by-step webinar you will be able to see, and not just hear, how to make your club website work for you. This is fully interactive webinar. You will be able to ask questions as needed. It will also be...
