Convergence in Waco on March 1st!

On the morning of Saturday March 1st, contestants from all seven of Waco’s Toastmasters clubs competed in the Area 41 Tall Tales and International Speech Contests in Waco. Volunteers and contestants converged to help Area 41 Governor, Nathan Embry, the contest chair, Louisa Whitehead, the contest Toastmaster, Raymond Harper, and many others put on a great show. Area 45 Governor Duane Fontenot came down from Colleyville, bringing several judges to rank the speakers, and District Governor Dean Lampman and Spring Conference Chair Susan Hastings helped with the proceedings. Charlie Coombs, DTM

Charlie Coombs, DTM, of the Irving Toastmasters Club, passed away on February 27. Charlie was known for his long service to Toastmasters, District 25 and his club.  Charlie won the District 25 Tall Tales Contest Spring 2008.  It was one of the best Tall Tales I’ve ever heard. I can remember sitting with Charlie at various events and having fascinating conversations.  Submitted by Diana Patton

Preliminary Realignment Proposal

Each year the Alignment Committee develops a preliminary proposal that realigns clubs within District 25 boundaries to allow clubs and members to be more effectively served by the district leadership and area governors. Clubs are best served when an area governor is assigned between four to six clubs. To further facilitate service to the clubs most areas are assigned geographically except for a few areas. The Alignment Committee approved a 2014-2015 preliminary proposal and will present it for a vote at the District Executive Council (DEC) on March 15, 2014. After the DEC vote a realignment proposal will be presented...

Be a DTM! It’s Easy!

Have you considered how easily you can become a DTM? No, we’re not referring to being a Distinguished Toastmaster. That award, the highest recognition available in Toastmasters, typically takes years to earn. It’s well worth the effort, but that isn’t our focus here. Becoming a Dream Team Member (DTM) is also valuable. It’s easy, yet rewarding work that will earn you rapid recognition. We launched the DTM program at the start of the year to help new members achieve their goals and see the benefits of a long journey in Toastmasters. The program can help clubs sustain and grow their...

Is Your Club Posting?

How many people in your Toastmasters Club are on Facebook?  How about Twitter, LinkedIn or Google+? Do any of your members post on Pinterest, Digg or any other social media site? If you asked these to your club, an average guess would be at least 50 % of them are on one social media or another several times a week, or at least follow one. After all, it is more and more the way the world inter-communicates. For example, the Olympic athletes were tweeting as they entered the Opening Ceremonies, after they’d finished their competition rounds, and while they were...

LEARN TO use the rules of Parliamentary Procedure to your advantage!

Learn Parliamentary Procedure for Effective Meeting Management Workshop I know that you know who Ralph Smedley was.  But did you know that the founder of Toastmasters International wrote a book in 1955 called the Great Peacemaker about the life of the author of Robert’s Rules of Order, General Henry M. Robert?       Mr. Smedley knew the importance of organizations using the correct procedures at their meetings and the contribution which General Robert made to that end. And to that end the Texas State Association of Parliamentarians (TSAP) is holding a series of workshops to “Spread the Word around Texas” (SWAT) about...
