Tulsa, OK has produced many things. Fortunately for D25, Larry Core is one of them. Serving as our District Finance Manager, Larry brings a wealth of experience to the role. His B.A. is in Political Science, and his M.S. is in Accounting from The University of Texas at Arlington. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in both Ohio and Texas, while being a Certified Management Accountant and Chartered Global Management Accountant. He currently runs his own CPA practice.
Joining Toastmasters in the 1990s, he was a charter member of CSW Power Speakers (Dallas, TX) – serving as Club President and an Area Governor for District 50. It is there he earned his ACB and ALB. In 2000, a company merger took him to Columbus, OH. He had to absent himself for a time from Toastmasters while there (letting his communication skills stagnate according to him). When he retired from American Electric Power, in 2013, he and his wife of 35 years, Bobbye (who passed away in April 2016) came back home to Texas.
Upon his return home, Larry reconnected with Toastmasters thanks to Bonne Stroman and Something to Talk About Toastmaster in Mineral Wells. He regained his CC and ACB skills. “The best part for me: I met many crazy, exciting, supportive friends.”, Larry wrote. He goes on to say he means “crazy” to make himself more youthful, not as a descriptive word for his friends, although….
2018 has been good for Larry. He served as a TLI trainer for the summer session, traveled, “…met more crazy, exciting, supportive friends…”, and became the District Finance Manager.
Larry defines his Toastmaster experience this way: “In the early 1990s, I used Toastmasters to build my communication skills. But now I see Toastmasters as an opportunity to serve and to contribute. And I discovered that for me, serving and contributing also helps me grow, both personally and professionally.”
We appreciate your service Larry, and look forward to growing with because of you this year.
