Here we are! Had a good meal with good friends to celebrate the holiday season. The Toasters indulged me by allowing me to give the “after dinner” speech project from my “The Entertaining Speaker” advanced manual. Then we laughed over our “white elephant” gift exchange and shared stories of Christmas. Pauline Lesch, Vice President Public Relations Cooke County Area Toasters
Looking Back . . . Looking Forward!
What a great start we have had for the 2012-2013 Toastmasters year! January 1st marks the halfway point through our District officer terms. Our year began with our Toastmasters Leadership Institute season, with a whopping 92% of clubs sending 4 or more officers to be trained! And 46% of our clubs earned the Super Seven ribbon for having all seven officers trained. In addition, well-attended elective classes featured communications and leadership skills beyond basics. Moments of Truth Meeting
It is not as scary as you think.Toastmasters encourages each club to have a Moments of Truth meeting at least once a year. What is it?When you go to your doctor for an annual checkup, he or she takes your blood pressure, your pulse and your temperature to find out if you are healthy. For many it is the moment of truth – Okay, you do need to lose twenty pounds and exercise more. But yes, you have reduced some stressors, lowered your salt intake and have been using probiotics. At the end of the examination, your and your doctor have discovered good results as well as areas...

Best Wishes Santa
Many of you are aware that in December of each year, a Toastmasters couple undergo a miraculous transformation. They become Santa and Mrs. Claus. For years, Chuck and Terry Mencke has donned their apparel and visited Toastmasters clubs, children’s homes, civic organizations and church groups spreading cheer. Last year they made 38 appearance in 3 weeks. This year, Santa won’t be making as many. He is having surgery on his knee in a few weeks. Why now? “This one is free,” he shrugged. “I already met my medical deductible when I had the other done earlier this year.”...

Larry Just Wants to Be Involved in Contests
Larry Harmon, Chief Contest Clown! As I approached this contest season, I was feeling a little sad. I was sad that I was not going to be able to compete and sad that I was not going to be involved. I knew last year that if I took on the role of Area Governor that I would not be eligible to compete this year. Little did I know how much I would be involved this year by not being able to compete. I found out the whole other side of the contest. For three years I had spoken in the...
