Mansfield TM’s VP PR featured
Denise Roe, VP Public Relations for the Mansfield Sunrise Toastmasters Club which she founded a little over a year ago, was recently featured in Mansfield NOW Magazine, in an article called “Passion for Promotion”, written by Zachary R Urquhart. In it, her desire to establish a Toastmasters club and its purpose is discussed. Denise was instrumental in getting the club chartered. The group met regularly at Mansfield Public Library and began to attract more and more members until they reached the magic 20 needed to charter. Her promotional skills helped the thought become a reality within a few short months. A year later, the...
What Judges Look For in International Speeches
If you are entering the International Speech contest this year, then there are some things you should know. Judges, in order to be unbiased and fair, go by certain predetermined criteria, be it at the club, area, division or international levels. Each judge, at every contest all over the world, will grade on the same nine areas set by Toastmasters International. Together, these nine areas assist each judge in determining how well the speech’s original content is presented, if the audience reacts appropriately to what is being said because of how it is delivered, and if the speaker’s language skills are well developed. Content, i.e.the manner in which...

Three Resolutions to Embrace
It’s that time of year — when we make and apply resolutions for greater success in the New Year. We should do this in Toastmasters, too, and here are three resolutions worthy of your consideration: 1. I will mentor others and be mentored. If you’re a club officer, attend one of the winter TLIs (see details). Last year, winter TLI attendance was down significantly from the summer level. We want to avoid that this year because one of the most telling indicators of club performance is whether officers attend trainings. Another hallmark of a strong club is an active mentoring program...
Start the New Year with a Membership Drive
Statistics show that the average club will lose 20-40% of its members every year. Most do not leave because someone gave them a bad evaluation, they didn’t fit in, or they didn’t see the value of Toastmasters. A few may get their CC or CL and think that is all they need to do, so they bow out. However, most leave because life happens. They are transferred, have to take on a second job, have health issues or other family obligations which prevent them from coming. So, a healthy club is always in a recruiting mode, and with John Lau’s...
TNT Has Visit from Santa

Julie told us the story of the Littlest Christmas Tree – her favorite book as a child. Santa led Table Topics. The most coveted gifts were a cluster of chocolate bars and a Starbucks gift certificate. Joining us were our three newest members, Chris, John and Bessie Ann, whom we inducted as part of the celebration. That night Sven signed up to be a TNT’er as well.James CosgroveSecretaryTNT Club 825
