I’ve had the pleasure recently of attending an advanced club in Dallas called “Improv Masters.” In this club, the attendees are assigned a subject and have 5 minutes to prepare a speech from the Competent Communication manual. It’s like Table Topics on steroids. They still do regular Table Topics for those not giving a speech, and there are a few other entertaining items during the meeting. This format is great for improving your impromptu speaking. This club meets once a month at the homes of its members with a pot luck dinner preceding the meeting. I would like to find...
A Principled Path
Larry Vance, DTM Waco Wordsmiths Waco, Texas Toastmasters taught me that we are all friends here to help each other. Through leadership roles, I realized that leadership is more about influence than about authority. Everyone can have an influence for good in others. Missing link: I never aspired to be a leader, but assumed the role of leader when there was a void in the leadership of a group. Through the DTM process, I realized the missing elements to my service. “I am impressed with Toastmasters principles… Toastmasters can benefit anybody and everybody. Maybe not everybody will opt for joining Toastmasters,...
Real Résumé Reviver
Mary Feltman, DTM Heart of Texas Bridge Gappers Hewitt, Texas Toastmasters became a major addition to my CV. When I had to answer the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities questionnaire, I had something about Toastmasters for each of the 16 questions. When people ask me how I learned to conduct meetings, I easily say “Toastmasters taught me leadership.” Relocation assistance: I have lived in a few different states and have always been able to meet new and different people and be welcomed into a new club when I relocated. “It is great to have Toastmaster friends everywhere!”
Getting to the Point
Peggy Corino, CC, CL MidCities Achievers Bedford, Texas I have a very outgoing personality and communication is my passion. My friend, a member, urged me to go. I went to a meeting. I’ve been addicted to Toastmasters ever since. Because Toastmasters helps me organize my thoughts better, I’m more confident that my messages are fully understood. “Too much gab,” now fab: I have a strong ability to lead others; however, I used to get long-winded which tended to confuse the people I led. Now, I know how to say the key elements quickly so people do not get confused. “Members live...

Maintain Your Better Life
“Just think about how much better your lives are.” Paul Simon performed in Grand Prairie on October 28, 2011. Photo by Dean Lampman Legendary singer-songwriter Paul Simon offered those comforting words to his Grand Prairie audience as the Texas Rangers lost to the Cardinals in World Series Game 7. Simon married a Dallas-area woman; he knows our weather, and quality of life, is nicer than that in St. Louis. We should follow Simon’s advice. Because of Toastmasters, our lives are better. We’re more confident speakers and accomplished leaders. We regularly meet, work and have fun with Toastmasters friends, for less...

Good Food Plus Fun & Games Add Up to a Great Time at the Fighter Enterprise/Area 15 Picnic!
It has become a tradition at Fighter Enterprise Toastmasters Club to have a summer picnic at the Lockheed Martin Recreation Area. On Oct 1, members dedicated time to spend with fellow Toastmasters and their families. The aspiration was to play volleyball, try various food dishes and have some fun. Longtime member Jack Esparza was in charge of creating the teams and organizing the volleyball game. Our main food organizer was Lidia Barboza, VP Education. Instead of the traditional barbeque, this time it was decided to have a potluck – an excellent idea because we had the chance to taste the...
