In my opinion, the most important marketing tool a Toastmasters club has is a high-quality meeting. High-quality meetings result in members renewing and bringing guests who are likely to join. Obviously, the first requirement for a high-quality meeting is to have any meeting. It follows that cancelling a meeting is usually a mistake, and I will demonstrate the truth of that statement. I enjoy Toastmasters so much that I am a member of three clubs: Denton Toastmasters, Las Colinas Communicators, and Oration Plus Toastmasters. Denton Toastmasters meets on Monday evenings, and my wife, one of my daughters, and I all...
Seven Years Ago in District 25 . . .
Did you know that the divisions once had mottoes? In Latin? This editor cannot vouch for their correctness but they certainly look impressive. This appeared in the February 2005 issue of In Touch, the D25 newsletter. Each division also had a coat of arms, and these also appear in that issue. (Note that there were only five divisions then.) Click on graphic to enlarge. Browse our newsletter archive here. In case you are unable to read the graphic, here is the text. The Mottoes of the Divisions of District 25 2004-2005 Division A – Strong Foundation for Excellence (Validus Substructio pro posterus) Division B – Continued Support...

Consider a Step Outside Your Comfort Box
Comfort Box? Again, still and yet, people continue to talk about it. What exactly is your comfort box? Where is your comfort box? Better yet, why do I have to step outside it? As a seasoned Toastmaster, my comfort box is located at the very same comfort box as most members . . . the home club meeting. This has to be the most comfortable place for me to speak. Why, you ask? Here are a few reasons why this is my comfort box: The room is the place where I learn to give my Toastmaster presentations. The...

Membership Growth and Retention Necessary for Club Success
Now is a good time to check your club’s DCP progress, and review the previous article by Sarfaraz Nazir, “Why Is the Distinguished Club Important?” Every six months, clubs collect dues. Not all members renew their membership. They move out or move on or leave the club for various other reasons. That’s why clubs need new members to replace the ones who do not return. To assist with this effort, the Distinguished Club Program (DCP) includes goal number 7 (add four new members) and goal number 8 (add four more new members). New members include new Toastmasters, dual members and reinstated...

A Reflection for the New Year
Shine a little brighter in 2012! The New Year is a time to reflect and recommit. As a Toastmaster, Club Officer, or District Leader, let’s do just that so we will shine a little brighter! What were our goals as we began our 2011-2012 Toastmaster year? Perhaps as a member it was to complete that next education goal. Perhaps it was putting together a plan to be a Distinguished Toastmaster by the spring 2012 conference or perhaps fall 2012 Conference. As an officer, what were your goals? Perhaps this was the year you wanted to be sure that all officers...
To Infinity and Beyond!
Our new International tag line asserts, “Toastmasters: Where Leaders Are Made.” But does leadership just happen? We all know that the best way to learn leadership skills is by doing, not by reading a book or an article, no matter how enlightening it may be. Those interested in developing leadership skills should begin by taking advantage of the many opportunities for leadership in their Toastmasters clubs and beyond. At the club level, members may run for a club office or offer to help existing officers with a membership drive, club contest, publicity campaign or other club activity. Every current club...
