The first open house was June 9 and featured guest speaker Ed Archangel, first place winner of this year’s District 25 Spring International Speech Contest. The second open house on June 30 featured a Fourth of July Celebration. Long-time club member Bob Conrad presented a humorous history of how Grand Prairie Toastmasters became “World Renowned. “Back in the mists of time in some foggy bottom on a grand prairie, were some folks called BABBLE-onians, for they babbled on without form and no purpose of...
My Journey as Area 65 Governor
As Area 65 Governor, I challenged myself to go beyond the required two official club visits. Attending all club meetings would be the best way to learn each club’s needs. Amon Carter Oratorsbarely had low membership. The club welcomed club coaches Bonnie Crawford and Kathy Brewer worked together to identify opportunities and implement changes. The members began to see that holding an officer role was a leadership opportunity and a stepping stone for leadership awards within the Toastmasters program. They changed the meeting time to better meet members’ schedules. They alternated buildings for their meetings. By staying open to positive...

First Command Open House June 17
On June 17, 2015 the First Command Toastmaster’s group hosted an Open House where the benefits of Toastmasters were discussed with visitors from both within the company as well as outside the company. The Open House had a variety of individuals from various employment backgrounds ranging from tax, IT, and financial advisors. The theme for the meeting was summer, which was very fitting given that the summer solstice was only four days away. The club provided hot dogs, chips, a vegetable plate and cherry and apple pies for desert. The weather was not as accommodating however – at least not...

Reflections on my year as District Governor
This has been a year that I will always remember! The members and clubs of District 25 amazed me throughout the year with their dedication to the Toastmasters program and to the personal development of members. As a district, we set our goals at the beginning of the year and worked our plan to achieve them. This year’s leadership team was the best I have had the privilege to work with. Thanks to my Lt. Governors, Division Governors, Area Governors, and appointed district staff. They took their responsibilities seriously and worked diligently all year. Due to the district TEAM working...

Two Weeks Remaining in the 2014-2015 Toastmasters Year
The past 11½ months as District Governor have been memorable! They have been filled with planning, training leaders, speech contests, district conferences, assisting clubs, personal growth and enjoying the companionship of fellow District 25 members. As a district, we still have work to do to meet the critical success factors set by Toastmasters International to achieve Distinguished District status. Our Newest Club – Smooth Talkers We need more new/renewed clubs and additional clubs to reach distinguished club status. We can reach our goals if all of you will continue to help! If you need to renew members to keep your...
