Being a Toastmaster

Kathy and John Bergs ready to Boldly Go!2013 D25 Spring ConferencePhoto by Steve Bomar Photos My name is Kathy Bergs and I have been a Toastmaster since January of 2013. I am a member of the Bethesda Toastmasters where I serve as VP-Education. I just received my Competent Communicator award in August of this year. Most of you know my husband John. He became a Toastmaster in 2005 at the advice of his boss. I would always accompany John to contests, awards banquets and conferences. Many people thought I was a Toastmaster already because I was at everything. I would...

An Evening of Possibilities – An Evening to Remember

District 25’s Awards Banquet, Saturday, August 17, 2013 The Awards Banquet Committee was ready and waiting for 5:30 for the doors to open; standing by to meet and greet Toastmasters and guests.  Had we forgotten anything?  Surely not, we had been planning this a long time. Remembering Sally Linn, DTM

Our Toastmasters universe recently lost a shining star when Distinguished Toastmaster Sally Linn passed away August 15th.  Sally joined our Toastmasters family in March 2005 as a Charter Member of “Speaking With Class” in District 25.  If I could describe her first year in one word, it would be “whirlwind”. In just her first year as a Toastmaster: Sally served as her club’s first Vice President of Education. She was so impressed with her first Toastmasters Leadership Institute, she attended additional sessions. Within months of joining Toastmasters, that spring she attended her first District Conference.  That would be the first...

Be Part of a Brand New Evaluation Club!

There is a wonderful opportunity to be a charter member of a brand new Advanced Club in District 25. Karen Platts, DTM is a member of Metrocrest Toastmasters and is leading the effort to form this new club. Karen’s vision is two-fold. For several years, she has noticed that evaluations don’t seem to provide speakers with what they truly need to improve. She checked around in both District 25 and District 50 and found no club specializing in evaluations. POP! LIGHT BULB! The idea hit her to establish a new club that would fill this void. The members would be...
