A Fireside Chat

Home / Education / A Fireside Chat

Anyone who attended the 1st Summer TLI this past Saturday probably felt as if they were sitting fireside. The room was warm, fans were whirling like crazy and water was being hand delivered. Then we had the surprise attendance of a special visitor. Jodie Sanders queried during one interruption from the tiny guest, “Does anyone know if he signed in for this?”

I must admit that I was a bit leery of the new 3.5 hour officer training schedule. I was very pleasantly surprised by the content and the presentation. Cindy Hinckley, Jodie Sanders and Tammy Bailey tag teamed to deliver the general session which focused on Club Quality and related matters such as Club Mission, officer duties, Moments of Truth, etc. It was powerful and important information to help club officers be more successful during their 6 months of service.

Club officers that attended the training got the naked truth about club DCP (Distinguished Club Program) goals. As part of the training, it will help them set goals and focus on them for the year. It is the yearly renewal of these measures that helps each of us set goals at all levels. It is the focus on these goals and measures that helps push individuals and clubs to achieve. And it is the accomplishment of these goals that makes Toastmasters a worthwhile communication and leadership organization for so many of us. Successful organizations set goals and take measure of those goals. You simply cannot be successful if you do not know where you are going.

Thanks goes to the room of club officers that took the time to get the information they needed to better guide their clubs in the upcoming months as we start a new Toastmasters year. Toastmasters International has determine that the #1 measure of success for a club is trained officers. Thanks to Cindy, Jodie and Tammy for delivering a fantastic session on Saturday.
