Sandra “Candy” Robinson

I am so excited!  I just won the election for IEEE USA President-Elect 2017, and just have to share the news with my Toastmaster friends!

The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) has about 400,000 members world-wide, and is the largest technical association in the world.  About half of those members reside in the IEEE USA.  The IEEE-USA President is responsible for advancing policies and implementing programs designed to serve and benefit the members, STEM professionals, and general public in the United States and for representing the professional interests of the IEEE before U.S. governmental bodies. In this role, the IEEE-USA President works with IEEE-USA volunteers and staff to advance the public good and promote the careers and public-policy interests of the technology professionals who are U.S. members of the IEEE.

I am proud to have the leadership opportunity, and directly credit my campaign success with the skills learned in Toastmasters.  For the past year, I visited all six U.S. Regions and was given five minutes to provide my reasons why members should vote for me.  My two opponents did the same, and then we answered Q&A from the audience.  My weekly practice in formulating my thoughts via Table Topics and giving speeches helped me deliver my message like nothing else could have!

Thank you Toastmasters, for helping me take hold of this tremendous opportunity and for providing me with the tools to succeed in this role!
