Question: What’s the most valuable thing that occurs in a Toastmasters club meeting?
Answer: The speech evaluation(s).
Speech evaluations provide a critical part of every club meeting. When delivered properly, an evaluation gives the speaker encouragement and suggestions for improvement, thereby fulfilling a key promise of the Toastmasters program. Evaluations give the audience insights, and the evaluator gets both a speaking and teaching (leadership) opportunity.
There’s an art to effective evaluation and you can learn more by attending a speech evaluation workshop scheduled for the morning of Saturday, August 29. It will occur at First United Methodist Church, 2201 Hebron Pkwy, in Carrollton, and runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Any member of clubs in District 25 or District 50 can attend this fast-paced, content-rich, three-hour workshop that’s guaranteed to help you.
At the workshop, co-sponsored by The Evaluators (an advanced Toastmasters club) and Grace Toastmasters, you’ll learn from experienced speech evaluators, including current and past District 25 and District 50 Speech Evaluation Champions Jyo Pai, DTM; Karen Shelton, DTM; and Thomas Torlincasi, DTM, as well as an accomplished faculty composed of Dean Lampman, DTM; Jamey Rider, DTM; Debra Sanrford, DTM; and Michael Sheridan, DTM.
This workshop is free, but space is limited and RSVP is required. To ensure your seat, please register today at: http://tinyurl.com/poaomk4
