London is a wonderful city and especially picturesque in December when decorated for the Christmas holidays. What better way to add to the holiday cheer than visiting a Toastmasters meeting?
I planned ahead and corresponded with the District 91 leadership about my desire to visit a club near my hotel. Their response was immediate and it was decided that I should visit a newly forming club called City Limits. What fun to be part of another district’s pre-charter meeting and helping to build a new club in the UK!
It was a well run meeting with all the elements of a standard Toastmasters meeting….prepared speeches, table topics and evaluations. In addition, they had a special guest as Toastmaster ….Santa Claus! There was also a funny hat contest and the meeting was followed by a special Christmas brunch.
It was a wonderful opportunity to interact with British members. I was able to share ideas/information with the Youth Leadership Chair, two Area Governors, a Division Governor and the District PRO. I also interacted with new and prospective members.
Again, I found that Toastmasters in other places are like those I’m accustomed to in District 25. They have a great desire to develop their communication and leadership. They willingly share their skills with the people around them. And like us, they love to have fun!
